Neighbourhood Watch is a community-based crime prevention program that brings
neighbors together to help create a safer, more connected community. The program
encourages residents to be aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity, and
partner with local police to reduce crime and improve neighbourhood safety.
Volunteer Responsibilities
As a Neighbourhood Watch volunteer, your role is to:
- Be a positive ambassador for the program within your neighborhood.
- Stay alert and report suspicious or criminal activity to the police when
appropriate. Volunteers do not intervene or put themselves at risk. - Encourage neighbours to be aware of crime prevention practices and home
security. - Help build connections among residents to foster a safer and more supportive
community. - Share crime prevention information and community safety updates provided by
Neighbourhood Watch or local law enforcement. - Assist with community outreach events, volunteer recruitment, and educational
initiatives when possible. - Promote timely reporting of crimes and suspicious activity using the appropriate
emergency and non-emergency police services.
Neighbourhood Watch volunteers are observers, educators, and communicators – not
law enforcement officers. The program’s success depends on neighbors working
together, staying informed, and partnering with police to help prevent crime while
maintaining a safe and welcoming community for everyone.
