Dragons Pond Hockey Returns for its 9th Season in 2025!
Thanks for your interest in our 9th annual Dragon’s Pond Hockey Program! Registration is open to children ages 5-12. We have room for 35 kids, and can provide equipment for approximately 25 kids, however, every child will need to have their own skates, helmet and stick. The North Glenora Community League has some skates (limited sizes) and helmets for borrowing.
Pond Hockey is designed for kids in the community as a fun, inclusive introduction to hockey or to expand on previous experiences with the game.
Participants are required to have at least an Intermediate level of skating…which means they are confident skating, turning and stopping.
Dates and Times:
The Dragons will be playing on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the North Glenora Community League rink. Pond hockey is a fun, non-competitive way to get your kids outside in the winter and get them moving. Hockey experience is not required – kids will be divided into groups based on their skill level. The official season will start January 8th, 2025 but we plan to have a few pre-season skates in December, weather and ice permitting!
** Please Note: Pond Hockey is dependent on weather. Sessions will be cancelled if the wind-chill is below -20 degrees Celsius or if the ice is too soft. If possible, we will hold missed sessions in the following weeks as needed (weather permitting). **
Registration & Cost:
Fill out the form above to pre-register and you will be notified via email when your child is registered and the fees are due. Registration is ONLY $80 for the whole season!!
To keep fees low, we will also be asking parents to commit to helping with rink maintenance, clean-up, year-end party planning, and serving some hot chocolate during practices. Registration is complete once your child’s dues are paid.
Equipment:
We have equipment on-hand for registrants to borrow for the season. Each player will receive a basic set of starter equipment on the first day (which includes neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, pants, gloves, shin guards, carry bag) and a jersey. This equipment is yours to borrow and use for the entire season and will be returned after the season. Please take care of your equipment, and clean it as needed.
ALL PLAYERS MUST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT:
Mandatory: skates*, helmet with mask, stick, jock/jill
* Skates, helmets and sticks can be borrowed from the North Glenora Community League rink shack on a first come first serve basis. Jock/jill must be purchased.
Optional: mouth guard
Structure:
Parents will need to ensure that their children are dressed and ready to play on time. Approximately half of the time will be skills and drills followed by a scrimmage.
Volunteering:
Since this is a 100% volunteer run program, please let us know if you are able to help in any way. Volunteer opportunities include: Equipment Manager, Coaching, Assistant Coaching, Rink Shack attendant, Final Party organizer, cancellation phone parents, hot-chocolate duty, or others you might like to contribute.
